On Sunday, the 10th of the Lunar Bhutanese calendar, which fell on the 24th of September 2023, Bhutan celebrated THRUENBAB, a special and sacred day for Bhutanese Buddhists. It is believed that on this day, the Buddha known as NAMPAR NANGSEY, adorned with priceless jewels on its head, aligns with a star called REKI, resulting in the production of holy water. This holy water falls from the Buddha's head for seven consecutive days, cleansing all accumulated defilements over countless eons. To commemorate this auspicious occasion, Bhutanese people prepare a beautiful altar and offer veneration to deities early in the morning. The day typically begins with a hearty breakfast consisting of porridge known as THUKPA and butter tea, accompanied by special rice called SUJA DREYSI.
